Equine Dental Services in Montgomery
Modern equine dentistry is a comprehensive approach to keeping the horse’s mouth healthy. It is no longer just taking the sharp edges, or points, off the teeth. Equine dentistry now includes, in addition to removing the sharp dental points, an annual or semi-annual physical and visual examination under sedation by a qualified individual. This comprehensive examination will include the horse’s starting point, the work that was done and a plan for future maintenance to keep the horse’s mouth as healthy as possible as long as possible.
We utilize sedation, a full mouth speculum, a HD dental camera and radiographs, when needed, to fully examine the horse’s mouth. This allows us to find and eliminate issues that might otherwise be missed with a less comprehensive approach.
Extractions may be needed with aged horses or after injury. We have experience with routine and non- routine extractions of incisors, canines, Wolf teeth and cheek teeth. Referrals are sometimes made to Texas A & M on a case-by-case basis.
Dental reports with pictures are sent to the owner and/or trainer afterwards to allow the owner and trainer to have a better understanding of the horse’s needs and to aid in after care.
