Equine Veterinary Care FAQs

What Services Does an Equine Veterinarian Provide?

During a visit to our practice our veterinarian will offer comprehensive medical and preventative care, including routine checkups, diagnostic imaging, lameness evaluations, vaccinations, and minor surgical procedures. We also provide guidance on nutrition, parasite prevention, and general wellness planning. Additionally, our veterinarians offer chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, mesotherapy, regenerative therapies, laser therapy, and BEMER therapies to support your horse’s overall health. As a trusted equine veterinarian near you, we’re here to support horses through every stage of life. We aim to make each visit informative and effective.

How Often Should My Horse See a Veterinarian?

Most horses benefit from at least one full veterinary exam per year, although older horses, young foals, or those in performance training may need more frequent visits. These annual exams are an opportunity to identify potential issues before they become serious. What a wellness exam may include is yearly blood work as well as a fecal exam to determine if your current deworming program is working for your horse(s). Yearly blood work can help pick up any subtle problems with your horse's health before it becomes a problem. During a visit, our horse vet clinic will evaluate your horse’s overall health, discuss any concerns, and update vaccines or parasite control plans as needed.

Does Your Clinic Offer Equine Dental Care?

We recommend an annual oral cavity exam for your horse. A proper equine dental exam and care is essential for the well being for the general health of your horse, its performance and behavior.

Our veterinary practice offers dentistry services for your horse by a veterinarian that has had extensive training and knowledge of endodontic equilibration, extractions and dental radiography.  Whether it's yearly dental care or a more complex issue with your horse's mouth, we can provide excellent care for your horse at our clinic or at your farm.

Do You Provide Emergency Services?

We offer emergency services for established, routine clients. Our equine mobile vet can assist with injuries, sudden illness, or colic cases that need immediate evaluation. We also provide Tela Health visits for established clients, which can be helpful when you’re unsure if your horse's condition or injury warrants an office visit or farm call. While our clinic does not offer 24-hour coverage, we respond promptly to urgent situations during regular hours. If you’re unsure whether your horse requires emergency attention, we encourage you to call for guidance. We’ll do our best to provide swift and professional care on-site.

What Can I Expect From a Wellness Appointment?

A typical wellness visit includes a full physical exam, body condition scoring, weight estimation, and updates on vaccinations or deworming protocols. If needed, our veterinarian may also perform diagnostic testing or offer recommendations based on your horse’s lifestyle or discipline. Each visit is customized to meet the horse’s individual needs. We focus on prevention, so your horse stays healthy and active.
